Middle school and high school are the perfect times to create a resume that will help land you any job, internship, or other opportunity. Writing a resume with little experience can still be effective if you focus on your strengths, hobbies, and any relevant experiences you have. Here is a simple structure and a few tips to help you create a strong resume.
- Start with your contact information. At the top of your resume, include your:
- Full name
- Phone number
- Email address
- Write a brief summary about your goals and what you’re looking for in a job or internship. This could be something like looking for a job involving helping with kids or an opportunity to help people in need.
- State your most recent education.
- For example:
- School name – City, State
- Graduating class
- Some relevant coursework
- For example:
- Talk about some of your skills such as technical or soft skills.
- Examples: Social media management, customer service; problem solving; time management
- Now’s the time to share some of your relevant experience. This can be volunteer work, babysitting, a paid job or internship, or just helping out with an event at school. Make sure to include the location of your experience including the city and state, and the time frame of this experience. You should also include a brief description of what this job or volunteer experience entailed.
- Next, you should write about your school projects or accomplishments. This could be anything you want. A film you made, your science expo project, even if you sang in All Honors Chorus. Don’t forget to include the year of this project or accomplishment.
One last tip, make your resume as clean and professional as possible. If you follow this overview, you will have a strong resume to put forward for any application!
