I read a lot. Whenever I get into a really good book, nothing will get in the way of me reading. If I am supposed to be eating or doing homework, I will read instead.
I was also curious to know if people in H-B Woodlawn had a favorite book. H-B has a wide variety of ages of students and teachers, and I wanted to capture this diversity by learning more about the books they read. I have surveyed some H-B students and here are some responses I have received.
Anne is an eighth grader at H-B and her favorite book is The Broken Harbor by Tana French. The Broken Harbor is a psychological thriller and she enjoys this book because she understood the plot twist, “it’s always the wife.”
A ninth grade student said their favorite book is Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson. Shadows of Self is an urban fantasy book and the student enjoyed this book because it had “good character writing, interesting setting, [and] fascinating magic system.”
Seventh grader Celia Kilpatrick said her favorite book is The Selection Series by Kiera Cass. The Selection Series is a dystopian romance book and Celia enjoys this book because, “It’s really engaging and I like how the author wrote it.”
Tenth grader Eva Walter said her favorite book is The Moon is Down by John Steinbeck. The Moon is Down is a historical and science fiction story. Eva really enjoyed this book because, “I LOVE how Steinbeck humanized each character,” and, “it also played a key role in WW2 because the Allies dropped the book into Axis countries.”
By looking at the different books that people read, you can see that H-B has a very diverse reading selection.
