The field is coming! H-B is in the process of getting a new field, and it’s going to have many new features, a built in parking lot, and much more. The field does not have a specific completion date, but it’s supposed to be finished sometime in January. However, this date could easily be pushed back.
The new field will be a massive step up from our old one in many ways. First off, the new field will be all turf, with soccer goals and lines for football or soccer. The field will also have wooden and concrete bleachers. In addition, there will be a parking lot underneath for staff and teachers. The field will also include lights and 10-foot fences and banners could hang from.
The field won’t be regulation size, meaning the field will be smaller than other sports fields. This means that H-B will not host games, but PE classes will happen on the field. We aren’t the only people who are going to use this field, however: little kids’ practices might happen here and people who live nearby will be welcome to our field.
Already, the concrete stairs had to be torn apart once before completion. When asked, Graham said, “they didn’t follow instructions.” The construction firm forgot to add waterproofing to the concrete, so they had to tear the stairs up and add it. This setback means completion will most likely be pushed back.
The parking garage is almost finished. As of now, all that’s left is the addition of lines and a door from the back of the ground floor to the parking lot. Originally, the hallway on the ground floor near the elevators was going to include a door to the parking garage. This is because the field and garage was an original part of the blueprint for the building.
Spaces in the parking lot will be available to H-B and Shriver staff and visitors. Teachers will continue to park in the Cortland parking lot.
What is going with the field right this week? Construction workers are adding waterproofing and the white boxes contain turf. The fencing is being put up and lights. The field is almost here, and the wait will be worth it.
