This year’s Hispanic Heritage Equity Block took place on October 10th. Many stations were available for students and teachers to learn and have fun. These included making Mexican friendship bracelets, participating in other crafting, visiting local taco trucks, and of course dancing!
Nekya Ball, the Equity and Excellence Coordinator, said, “We’ve been planning this since last month, like early September, typically preparing for things like this it takes up to a month to get ready for.”
Clearly their hard work paid off! During the event, many people were celebrating and enjoying themselves. There was dancing, laughter, and a vibrant atmosphere as everyone came together to honor and appreciate each other’s traditions.
The English learner students talked about how having an equity block helps them teach others about their culture and traditions by expressing themselves through dancing and other activities that were going on during the event.
Events like this help students and staff learn how others celebrate their culture.
Upcoming Equity Blocks include the Halloween celebration on October 31st and the Pick Your Passion Fair on November 14.
