On May 30, Taylor Swift bought back her original recordings from Shamrock Capital. She said “I really get to say these words: All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me,”
Why did Taylor Swift have to buy her original songs? It goes back to 2019 when Scooter Braun betrayed her and sold her original recordings from Big Machine, which was Swift’s old recording label. Scooter Braun is a music mogul and was very close to Taylor Swift. In 2020, Braun sold her original recordings to Shamrock Capital. After Braun sold the songs, Swift could not profit on them anymore.
After Scooter Braun sold the songs, Taylor Swift felt betrayed. There are theories that the song “My Tears Ricochet” in the album Folklore shows how she felt. Some lyrics that show this are “And when you can’t sleep at night (you hear my stolen lullabies).” The stolen lullabies part could refer to how Braun sold her songs.
In 2021, Taylor Swift started to re-record her albums. She did that so that fans could listen to her older music and she could profit from it. On April 9th 2021 Swift’s first recorded album Fearless was released. Over the next two years Swift released three more re-recorded albums. She named it “Taylor’s Version.” Even though she owns all of her music now, fans are still awaiting Reptatution Taylor’s Version. She said “the Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it.”
“Thanks to you and your goodwill, teamwork, and encouragement, the best things that have ever been mine… finally actually are.” Taylor Swift wrote this on her website talking about how her fans contributed to her life. Fans are that her biggest struggle has been resolved.
