Popular artist Lorde has just announced that she will be releasing a new album and a tour. Her new album “Virgin” will be released on June 27th and was announced on April 30th. The leading single of the album, called “What Was That,” was released on April 24th.
Lorde’s last album was released in 2021, so this has been a long awaited release for fans. Along with the release of her album, she will be going on tour starting in September, and will be coming to D.C. on October 4th and 5th.
Lorde’s most recent rise to fame began in summer 2024. She was previously more notable in the early to mid 2010’s and was also more mainstream in 2021. Many fans have noticed how Lorde releases her albums every 4 years. On social platforms, people are more than excited to say the least, some saying that this is the most awaited release of the year.
Lorde has sound-to-color synesthesia, meaning she sees sounds as colors. In a Harper’s Bazaar interview, Lorde said “The color of the album is clear… Full transparency, the language is plain and unsentimental. The sounds are the same wherever possible.” She also noted that “I was trying to see myself, all the way through.” She said that she was very proud of this album, but also scared because “There is nowhere to hide, I believe that putting the deepest parts of ourselves to music is what sets us free.”
While there isn’t much news about the album yet, I am counting down the days until its release! You can pre-save her album on any music streaming platform.
