Last Thursday, April 3rd, we had Town Meeting with Ellen Rugaber (‘27) as the chair, Eleanor Kiker (‘30) as co-chair, and Jay Young (‘25) as secretary.
There were two announcements:
Equity Block for April 10th (4/10): Next week’s Equity Block will be our caring community day. Hand to Hunger will be leading an activity making sandwiches and food packages to donate for those in need.
The Middle School Play: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, presented by our middle school, will be showing next Wednesday (4/9), Thursday (4/10), and Friday (4/11). The Friday show will be held during the school day (2:00-3:30). Students should ask their G block teacher to sign up their class to see the show or ask their teacher to excuse them and go see Eleanor to get tickets. Tickets are free for students on Friday.
There was one motion:
Autism Acceptance Month Activities: The Neurodivergent Student Union proposed to reserve the long I block on Tuesday, April 29th (4/29) to hold activities for Autism Acceptance Month. They will set up a table, run activities, and possibly have some handouts. The location is to be decided.
The motion passed.
There were two discussions:
Slight schedule adjustment idea for next year: An idea was brought up to switch the blocks such that E block would meet on Mondays and not meet another day of the week. The goal of the change is to better allow 7th grade teachers to line up their core class each week. For 6th and 7th grade, all core classes meet A, B, C, and D, and A, B, C, and E blocks respectively. Since E block currently doesn’t meet on Mondays, it is hard for 7th grade core teachers to keep classes synched. After a brief discussion, Nora, the 7th grade team lead who brought the discussion, said she will investigate more logistics and bring it back to town meeting at a later date.
Allocation to be proposed soon: Allocation proposals are currently in the works and will be brought to the next Town Meeting on May 1st. Overall, teaching positions are looking about the same as this year, no massive changes are expected.
The next Town Meeting will be held after Spring Break on May 1st.
