As you know, the long-awaited winter break is closing in. As such, I interviewed H-B Woodlawn staff members about their favorite winter traditions.
Eleanor Reed, the 8th-grade World Geography teacher, is a huge fan of winter break. She gets two amazing weeks of relaxation and time to herself. However, she also has lots of time to do monotonous chores, like cleaning up her attic. She loves spending quality time with friends and family.
During winter break, Eleanor doesn’t often grade assignments. Instead, she likes to rotate between working and relaxing, frequently planning future lessons for her students.
Eleanor loves the snow, but she doesn’t like to go out verymuch, as the cold weather is too harsh. So, she likes to find a cozy place to sit and watch the snowfall.
Her favorite winter snack is anything peppermint. Even though Eleanor likes winter break, winter is not her favorite season. In fact, her favorite season is fall. She finds it comfortable and the conditions are favorable.
Kate, our assistant principal, enjoys the new, fresh start for the year that winter break brings.
During the break, Kate likes going on walks, hiking, and watching movies. She also likes to meet up with her whole family every other year.
Whenever winter comes around, Kate gets really excited, as she thinks Virginia is a very hot state and is grateful for the cooler weather and the snowstorms.
Her favorite winter dish is eggnog. She loves eggnog! Also, she likes winter holiday-themed cookies.
Kate’s favorite season is fall, but she appreciates winter and cherishes snow days. However, she likes fall more because the weather is more enjoyable.
Catherine, the head of the H-B English department, is another fan of winter break because she gets to have time off from work. She likes to spend her time recharging and de-stressing.
She feels that the snow is magical, as it lets her do activities like skiing and going on walks in the snowy woods.
Catherine’s favorite food to enjoy during winter is family-made seafood soup. Her favorite season is summer because she gets to enjoy the heat and lots of fun activities. Nonetheless, she still loves winter!
