Stranger Things season five is off to a great start

If you’re a Stranger Things fan or are on social media, you should know that the Duffer Brothers have released the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. The first four episodes came out November 26, three years after season four was released.  The next two episodes debut on Christmas, and the finale launches on New Year’s Eve.

We have learned a lot in the first four episodes. We found out what happened to Will in the Upside Down, Eleven’s kryptonite, Steve and Jonathan’s rivalry over Nancy, what Max is up to, where Vecna is, and Will’s powers. I will warn you, there are MANY spoilers

In the first trailer we got for season five, we saw what happened to Will Byers in the Upside Down. Originally abducted by the Demogorgon in season one, watchers never really knew what happened to him in the other dimension.

Will was hiding in Camp Byers, his fort in the woods, when a Demogorgon jumped at him. He then shot it with a shotgun and ran. He climbed up a tree, but ended up falling and becoming unconscious. The Demogorgon took him to Vecna’s hideout, where Vecna put a mysterious vine in Will’s mouth. This injected Will with what viewers believe is part of Vecna, giving them a connection that we have seen throughout the series.

Later on, we see Will using Vecna’s powers to save his friends and kill three Demogorgons. Vecna did a similar thing in season four, killing three high school students and sending Max into a coma.

Eleven joined Hopper on a journey to find Vecna, a crawl. While they were there, Eleven heard an ear wrenching noise that made her powers temporarily paralyzed and sent her into immense pain.

At the end of the episode, we saw that the person behind it was Eight, Eleven’s sister from the lab, being forced to make the noise. We saw Eight in season two, being able to make people hallucinate.

Johnathan Byers and Steve Harrington have been fighting over Nancy Wheeler for almost the entire show. She originally dated Steve, then Johnathan, and then gained feelings for Steve again. We see them competing for her and even Johnathan being gifted a ring for her.

Max, who fell into a coma in season four, was spotted in episode three meeting up with Holly, Mike and Nancy’s sister, in Vecna’s mind. Lucas has been sitting next to her in the hospital everyday playing her favorite song, “running up that hill” by Kate Bush. The song has saved her from Vecna before and almost saved her again, opening a makeshift portal for her mind.

Vecna has been hiding for awhile now, and we finally know what he’s up to. Holly Wheeler was kidnapped to the Upside Down and woke up in a dream of some sort. Her real body is hidden somewhere in the Upside Down, being used for something we don’t know much about. Vecna has been acting like an imaginary friend, Mr. Whatsit, to lure kids of Hawkings into the Upside Down. He told Mike that it was because they are the future, and because they are soft.
