In May, NFL owners, led by the publicly owned Green Bay Packers, voted to ban the controversial tush push. The tush push, or the brotherly shove, is when the quarterback does a QB sneak and gets pushed forward by his teammates. The Eagles run this play often because of the difficulty of defending additionally on 4th down and short.
One of the reasons for banning is the difficulty of defending the play. Last season, the tush push had a conversion rate of 76.5% (28 of 34). when the Eagles run the play it is very hard to defend one of the most famous times of this was the NFC championship game when the Washington Commanders couldn’t stop jumping offsides and the refs threatened to give the eagles a free touchdown.
However, there are also reasons against banning the tush push. It is less dangerous when compared to a QB sneak; it also requires team work to pull off such a play.
In week six, the Eagles ran the tush push four times, the last one was a touchdown.
