Author Jenna Voris visits H-B!

On Thursday, January 8, author Jenna Voris visited the library. She had a presentation about her work, answered student questions, and signed books.

Jenna Voris has written the books “Every Time You Hear That Song,” “Say a Little Prayer,” “Made of Stars,” “The Long Con,” and “Into The Burning Deep.”

She was born and raised in Indiana, and as a kid, she loved reading books. This later led to her passion for writing and career as an author.

The first book she wrote was “Made of Stars.” The writing process was long, and the book was initially rejected by her agents.

She then stumbled upon a system wherein published authors would pair up with aspiring authors. Voris had paired up with another popular author, and it really helped her to have someone appreciate her ideas.

Then in 2023, six months after her first attempt, Voris sent a polished, edited version of her book. And to her surprise, her agents accepted it!

She said it was unexpected because, at the time, the market and interest in books was low for science fiction, which only made Voris happier.

Her second book was “Say a Little Prayer.” In the book, the main character doesn’t like her pastor, so when she has to go to mandatory church camp, she decides to commit every single one of the seven deadly sins. It is quite a light-hearted read despite the book’s topic.

Jenna’s most recent book is “Every Time You Hear That Song,” released in 2025. It’s about two people going to the countryside. The main character’s favorite country singer has a large reputation in the town the character is visiting, and they uncover a bit of history. The book switches between the past and the present tense.

Jenna says she gets most of her book inspiration from things that she loves. She got the idea for “Every Time You Hear That Song” from megastar Dolly Parton.

The students who came to the author meet got pizza provided by the library, and at the end, participants did an activity.

Voris had said it was a very nice experience to come to H-B, as this was her first time visiting a school that she didn’t previously attend. She always loves meeting teens who read, especially ones that have read her books.

Meeting Jenna Voris was extremely interesting and informative, and we hope to see more authors at H-B soon!
