This season, H-B’s actors and singers are going to steal the spotlight! For anyone aspiring to take the stage, now’s your chance, as exciting opportunities like auditions await. The next musical to entertain our students is The Mystery of Edwin Drood, a musical based off of the mystifying unfinished novel Charles Dickens was working on shortly before his death in 1870. In addition toAs well as including singing and dance numbers, Edwin Drood offers up a creative element of audience interaction, which will allow the viewers to get involved with the story and decide the ending to the tale. If you’re interested in the musical, auditions will be held on November 6-7, and callbacks will be on November 7.
While The Mystery of Edwin Drood brings the entire H-B community together, student-directed blackbox plays offer up an opportunity for more intimate and unique storytelling. Currently, there are two upcoming blackbox plays you won’t want to miss: The Secret Garden and The Yellow Wallpaper. The Secret Garden, based off of the famous story by Frances Hodgson Burnett, is being directed by H-B sophomore Laurel LaGarde and will surely be a magical performance! Another blackbox show, Tthe Yellow Wallpaper, adapted from the short story written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, is led by sophomore Charlie Levine and will tell a tale of madness and superstition.
As for show dates, The Mystery of Edwin Drood will be shown on February 12-14, and both blackbox performances will be presented on December 4-6. Seeing a theater performance is a chance to show support for your classmates, experience drama, laughs, live music, and celebrate students’ artistry and hard work. You never know, you could unearth a hidden talent from one of your peers, or get inspired to perform yourself! Be sure to ask Bill, the chorus teacher, or Hope, the theater teacher, about any concerns you may have about auditions. With so many performances on the horizon, there’s no better time to buy your tickets and experience the enchantment of H-B’s theater program!
