With Halloween coming up, many people like to get into the spooky season by watching their favorite scary films. Imagine yourself curled up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn ready to watch the perfect horror movie…but what movie should you watch? Here are some of my personal favorites that keep me on the edge of my seat.
Scream
Scream is a popular slasher franchise with a total of 6 movies with the seventh one in the making. The entire franchise is good, but the original is by far the best. The movie stars Neve Campbell as Sydney Prescott who is a high school student in the small town of Woodsboro, California. The movie follows a group of high school students who seem to be targeted by the killer known as ghost face. The reason it’s so iconic is that while it keeps a suspenseful vibe, the movie still finds a way to mock traditional slasher films and make viewers laugh out loud.
It
When you think of horror movies, It is definitely one of the most famous. There have been a few movie adaptations inspired by the book written by Stephen King. My personal favorite is the 2017 remix starring Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise. The plot is about a clown who terrorizes the kids in the town of Derry. The movie is made with just the right amount of jump scares with a little romance and a nice ending to tie it all together.
The Babysitter
The Babysister is a great movie, although it is a thriller it still has a hilarious side. Starring Judah Lewis as Cole who is a 12-year-old boy who discovers a terrifying secret about his babysitter after being dared to stay up all night. The movie had me laughing out loud while also keeping me at the edge of my seat concerned for Cole.
Terrifier
If you are someone who loves a splatter horror, then Terrifier is perfect. The movie is a masterpiece made just to scar you while it scares you. Art the Clown, played by David Howard Thornton, has made it his mission to kill these two young women in the most brutal way. Watching this is not for the weak but will not disappoint you at all.
The Menu
The Menu is more of a physiological horror, still will leave you with nothing but satisfaction. Anna Taylor-Joy is the lead, Margot. She gets invited to a fancy dinner at a restaurant on a remote island hosted by fictional celebrity chef, Julian Slowik (Ralph Fiennes). The night takes a turn for the worse as more and more is revealed about the purpose of why the rich guests are all there. It’s an amazing story line with a good plot twist.
