If you are reading this article then you are likely one of the MAJOR K-pop Demon Hunter fans! (If not, you have been living under a rock for your whole summer-break and we advise you to stop reading this article and go watch the movie!) In this article we will review the inspiration behind the show and the future of the K-pop Demon Hunter (KPDH) franchise.
As a quick review of KPDH, the movie is about a girl group k-pop band protecting humanity by slaying demons and ensuring that they don’t “eat” human souls. Though the movie has many morals, the most prominent one is self-acceptance.
It’s no secret that KPDH has millions of fans but why is it so interesting to people? Well, we asked around H-B halls and students basically all said the same thing: ‘I love the detail in all of the characters.’ The movie itself took 9 years to make: The filmmakers needed to sketch a lot of frames, heavily incorporate CGI, and write and record songs and scripts while doing intense research on how the characters and backgrounds would look. Therefore, it would be disappointing if the audience didn’t notice the details put into the animation.
K-pop Demon Hunters Theories
Many fans have speculated on the future any potential film sequels. Here’s our synopsis of the most common theories.
Celine’s role: As Rumi’s guardian and mentor, Celine’s backstory and true motives are questioned. One theory suggests that Celine killed Rumi’s mother by accident. This could be because Rumi’s dad was a demon and instead of killing him she accidentally killed her mom. This would also explain why her rigid stance on demons comes from a place of guilt.
The fate of Jinu: Fans refuse to believe Jinu is gone for good. Theories suggest that he isn’t truly dead, but that his soul was transferred to Rumi’s sword. His tiger companion’s appearance in the final scene is also considered foreshadowing for his return.
Gwi-Ma’s incomplete defeat: The new Honmoon created by the Huntrix is not gold, a detail that has led fans to theorize that Gwi-Ma was banished, not truly defeated. The non-golden barrier may signify that the victory is temporary and a larger battle is to come.
Four guardians mythology: Many fans believe a sequel will introduce a fourth Huntrix member to complete the Four Guardians of Sino-Korean mythology. Rumi (White Tiger), Zoey (Azure Dragon), and Mira (Black Tortoise) already align with three of the guardians.
We can’t wait to see what K-Pop Demon Hunters 2 has in store for us.
