Did you know that H-B Woodlawn has two new teachers this year? Melissa Meck and Lynette Monroe have both started their first year of teaching at H-B Woodlawn with a strong start.
Melissa has been in education for “a little over 20 years” and is currently our student support coordinator. Lynette has been in education for “about 10 years formally” she says, “but even before I was old enough to have a job, I always volunteered with youth organizations and at my local church.”
When asked about her job, Melissa said, “My title is student support coordinator, sometimes I work with teachers, sometimes I work with students, and sometimes I work with parents just to figure out if any support needs to be put in place and how we can help students.”
When The H-B Current asked Lynette she said, “My job is diversity, equity, and inclusion coordinator”(DEI). She said her responsibilities include, “just ensuring that the school is a safe place for everyone here. So occasionally you may see me stop in some classrooms to participate in conversations or just observe teacher practices.” Lynette also plans diversity celebrations such as Hispanic heritage month, and sponsors the Latin-American and African-American cohorts.
We are so happy to have these great new teachers at our very own H-B Woodlawn. Make sure to say hello to them in the halls if you see them!
