You might’ve noticed that this year, every Tuesday many students and some teachers came to school wearing ties. “Tie Tuesday” as it’s called, gained popularity last September, but the truth is it’s been going on for years.
Arvand Fiske, class of 2027, is largely responsible for spreading the word of Tie Tuesday. He was inspired by Vice Principal Graham, who has worn a tie on Tuesday for years. Arvand appreciated how Tie Tuesday gave him a day to be formal while still wearing clothes suited for sports and physical activity. Arvand would take selfies with everyone wearing ties on Tuesday and make a slideshow that he would send back out to the participants.
Initially, Arvand reached out to only about thirty people and half of them wore ties. He started messaging more people every Tuesday. The number of people that wore ties increased, and plateaued in the last few months. It’s not just students wearing ties either. Several teachers have also participated. However, the trend is mostly among high school, although a couple middle schoolers have participated as well.
He is happy to see how many people are wearing ties. In fact, it’s become so popular that it’s been incorporated into spirit week and Ninjas. “I did not expect it at all to be like this… but I enjoy it for sure,” Arvand said in an interview. Arvand has said he will not be making more slideshows next year, but people will be free to wear ties.
