Met Gala

As you may have heard, the 2025 Met Gala has come to a close, and this year’s theme was “Tailored For You”.  It focused specifically on menswear, and was interpreted differently among different designers. There were jaw dropping outfits and controversial moments that formed this year’s Met. Let’s break down some interesting styles that appeared on this year’s red carpet.

This year, K-pop star Lisa arrived in a stunning black pant-less blazer. The blazer wasn’t what caught the critics attention, though, it was Rosa Parks who was embroidered on a questionable area, and received some raised eyebrows. Many fans and critics are offended and think that the placement was intended to mar the image of the American activist. Personally, I believe that the placement was disrespectful, but we can’t direct all the blame towards Lisa without knowing the other side of the story.

As you may know, last year, singer Tyla made a ravishing debut. With her sand shaped dress and hourglass purse, many consider her debut to be one of the best ever, myself included. This year was no different. Her outfit was heavily influenced by Hollywood in the 1920’s. She wore an elegant white with black stripes gown, and had a shocking blonde transformation with her hair. Tyla never misses with her outfits to the Gala.

This year, American actor and musician Jeff Goldblum, attended his second Met Gala. He wore a sleek black suit and bow tie, with a big overcoat hanging on his shoulders. While Goldblum was being interviewed, he was asked about how he viewed men’s fashion. He answered, “it’s a gesture, it’s a protest in a way and I support it wholeheartedly”. Goldblum always brings his wide smile, and positive energy to the Met.

Doechii, the rapper and singer-songwriter, received a lot of backlash for her interesting entrance to the carpet. She emerged from an elevator surrounded by a box with her crew holding umbrellas over it, so that the paparazzi couldn’t get a sneak peek at her outfit. She started to yell at her workers for lack of umbrellas. Her questionable behavior appeared on a TikTok and the comments on it were far from positive. Fans criticized her, calling her rude or annoying. Eventually, Doechii faced the insults in a post, and captioned that the Met Gala “was such an overstimulating night” and that her team “killed it (umbrellas aside)”. While her behavior was unacceptable, we really can’t see everything that happened in those few seconds.

The celebrity hosts of the 2025 Met Gala were Colman Domingo (American actor, playwright, and director), Lewis Hamilton (British race car driver), A$AP Rocky (American rapper), Pharrell Williams (American singer and songwriter), and Anna Wintour (British magazine editor). Domingo wore a floor-length cape colored a dashing blue. He was photographed standing next to Lewis Hamilton, who was wearing an off white suit with a matching beret.

Although the Met Gala had some flaws, overall it was a roaring success!
