Do you like Sci-Fi? Enjoy video games? Consider Endless Abyss, a new Sci-Fi game, which is soon to be released on Itch. In Endless Abyss you explore a vast universe in your spaceship, visiting planets along the way.
Developed by H-B senior Jay Perrelli over the course of a year, it is based on a now-abandoned game called Rogue System. However, it is not just a replica, and expands on the concepts of the original, including the ability to disembark the spaceship and venture onto planets.
Jay even went so far as to design her own terrain generation system, creating an entire universe to explore filled with unique planets. When asked about her motivation, Jay shares, “I really like space, I really like complex machines, and I like making games, so it just works.”
Aiming for a lonely, quiet feeling, she hopes to make it similar to both the original Rogue System and a game called Subnautica, which is also prevalent in the genre. “You are completely alone, there are no other human beings,” she says when asked about the similarities between her game and others.
Jay has learned a lot from her time designing Endless Abyss: “It has given me an avenue to explore other things like procedural generation and just generally giving me the opportunity to do things that I wouldn’t otherwise be doing.”
Endless Abyss is still in early development, but it’s shaping up to be an awesome game. If you like sci-fi, technology, or just want a chill game to play, you should check it out. You can get the game from the alpha releases in their community discord or coming soon on Itch.
